Diet
Nutrition Handouts for health, pain reduction, and wellbeing.
The following is a meal plan recommended for optimal health by Dr. Mivin Donato, PT, and DC. Dr. Donato has become by personal physician and I have seen him in regard to improving my health and wellness. Dr. Donato has placed me on the following diet, and in 3 weeks, I was able to lose 20 pounds following this diet and have noticed a massive increase in my energy and feeling of wellbeing. My goal is to lose 80 pounds and get down to my goal weight of 160 from my starting weight of 240. It should be noted that I am 5'11" and am 54 years old. Dr. Donato, in addition to being a licensed physical therapist and chiropractor, is a Health Minister for Halleluja Acres, a Christian health and wellness organization. Dr. Donato's website is dolphindoctor.org. He is a Health Minister through Hallelujah Acres, which can be found at their website of hacres.com. The following diet is based both on the diet recommendations of Hallelujah Acres, and an excellent book that Dr. Donato had me read. I highly recommend that all of my patients obtain and read this book. We will be carryihng this book in the office very shortly, if not on our website. The book is entitled, "Eat to Live" by Joel Fuhrman, MD. Dr. Donato's office s located at 2596 E. Barnett Road, Suite B, Medfrd, Oregon, 97504. His phone number is 857-2678. His fax number is 857-2028. In addition to providing physical therapy and chiropractic treatment for your painful conditions, I would highly recommend that you see him for an evaluation of your overall health and recommendations about ways that you can utilize the following diet to improve your pain control. It should be nted that this diet has been utlized by many patients and is a very safe diet. After starting the diet, I went to a free seminar given by Dr. Donato. Dr. Donato provides a free 3-hour seminar to the general pblic every month at Mary Norbert Hall, at Providence Medford Medical Center. The timing of his next seminar can be found at his website.
The following is the diet that I would highly recommend that you follow. Although it seems to be difficult, it really is very easy. It should be noted that there are 5 things that you definitely need to avoid to optimize your overall health. These were presented by Dr. Donato in his lecture, but are also expounded in an excellent handout entitled, Biblical Nutrition 101 at Hallelujah Acre's website hacres.com. This is a free 74-page printout that can be obtained at the Hallelujah Acres website. I highly recommend that you obtain and read this handout. The five things that are absolutely detrimental to our optimal health are:
- Animal products, including any meat, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy, or any food products derived from animal sources.
- Sugar.
- White flour.
- Table salt.
- Caffeine.
It is highly recommended that you avoid these products at all costs. They will definitely set back your health and, in my opinion, shorten your life.
There is also excellent information about the importance of following the diet, as set forth by Dr. Donato in the excellent book, entitled, The China Studyby T. Colin Campbell, PhD.
The following is the diet, as presented by
Dr. Niven Donato.
Generic daily meal schedule for attendees of the "Back to the Garden" seminar.
This meal schedule can be customized to fit your schedule as long as within 24-hours you are eating at 85% raw. You can switch teh cooked portion of the dinner to lunch, and the raw lunch to dinner. This represents a high fiber, high carbohydrate, low protein, low fat, high nutrient density, vegan vetetarian diet that provides the body the proper building materials for repair, regeneration, healing and longevity.
Drink one glass (8 ounces) of water as soon as you wake up.
Breakfast (7 a.m.) Barley MAX (dehydrated barley grass juice) - one level teaspoon in 4 ounces of water, 30 minutes before green smoothie. Now you can exercise for an hour.
8 ounce glass of green smoothie (if you must have something to eat). Ideally, in the 85/15 plan you will not eat anything other than juice in the morning. Your body will adjust to this cycle and the benefits will become obvious.

Small side dish of baked potato (squeezed juice of 1/2 fresh lemon on it) OR cooked brown rice OR millet OR quinoa with a little of freshly squeezed lemon juice and sprinkle with onion powder. Or you can have a small bowl of oatmeal (not the instant version) here if you like. Use raw dates OR raisins as sweetener. You can also use small amounts agave nector OR raw unfiltered honey. It is also recommended that you go to the greensmoothierevolution.com for further information.
It should be noted that Dr. Donato has graduated from Halleluja Acres and is a licensed Health Minister. I am planning on becoming a health minister myself, but am planning on concentrating on the pain management side of my practice. I will be glad to refer all of my patients to Dr. Donato for either physical therapy or for an evaluation for optimization of your overall health through nutrition.
I am very impressed with the amount of knowledge that Dr. Donato has and find that it is very much in line with many of the things I have been reading. Several years ago I read an excellent book and have read numerous articles by the authors of the book The PH Miracle Diet by Robert O. Young, Ph.D., and Shelley Redford Young. They have an excellent website. I also, as noted above, was very impressed with the diet from The China Study. Please see enclosed the one-page handout of the foods that are allowed in The China Study diet. The China Study diet is included in the 12th chapter of the book The China Study and is a very short chapter. The majority of this very large book is devoted to the presentation of the data collected over 40 years showing that the diet that the Chinese peasants eat helps them to avoid obesity, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, heart disease, and strokes. The Chinese also have a very low incidence of cancer because of following this diet. I believe that all chronic pain patients would benefit from following this diet. I am certain that many of you will exclaim that this is a very radical diet and that you think that it is very much overboard. However, when you have reached the point of being so sick that you require continuous use of opiates to control your symptomatology, I believe that simple easy measures are not going to provide the results that you need As Dr. Fuhrman points out in his excellent book "Eat to Live" the oftentimes used admonition "moderation in all things" will lead to death if you follow this when you are as sick as you are at this point in your life. I firmly believe that we need to follow very radical steps in ordr to get well. Furthermore, I do not believe that you will find this diet to be that difficult once you start to follow it. There are so many fruits and egetables available for us to eat and they are very definitely very high in nutrition and low in calories. I furthermore believe very strong that this is the diet that God would have us to eat as Reverend Malkmus points out in his excellent booklet Biblical Nutrition 101. I am very hopeful that you will be able t follow this diet and that you will see tremendus benefits from it. If you have any quetions regarding it, please do not hesitate to contact me, and once again, if ou need a referral to Dr. Donato, do not hesitate to ask me.
Here is hoping that you get well and then should be as healthy as possible. God bless you.
Sincerely,
Thomas J. Purtzer, M.D.
